Black Indigenous People of Color (BIPoC) Providers Group
The intention of our time together will be to fill the space with whatever feels appropriate and seems relevant to those participating. Our time together will function a lot like a casual Affinity group, facilitated by Angela Goens, MS, RDN, LD.
Who is it for: All current EDRD Pro members who identify as Black, Indigenous, or Persons of Color are encouraged to participate.
This group will not be highly structured; rather, it will flow in the direction the attendees desire to meet their needs in the moment. This will be a safe space allowing time for connection, support, and conversations that center BIPoC life experiences, as an eating disorder and mental health provider.
About Angela:
As a Registered and Licensed Dietitian for nearly two decades, Angela has dedicated her entire career to the mental health field. She has experience working in various roles at all levels of intensive programming and outpatient services for eating disorders, chemical dependency, depression, and anxiety. Working in various levels of eating disorder treatment centers has given Angela great exposure to the entire continuum of care. Experience includes program development, facilitating support groups, motivational interviewing, individual counseling, mentoring, meal support, conducting training and education, as well as providing supervision.
She currently owns a private practice offering individual nutrition counseling, supervision, and consulting. Angela is also the current Director of Education and Development at EDRD Pro.
All humans can be affected by disordered behaviors with food as a way to cope and navigate life stressors. It is an aspiration for Angela in the nutrition field to challenge the stigma of eating disorders for non-stereotypical Black and Brown-bodied individuals. She desires to be a part of creating awareness and taking an active role in offering education, support, and treatment for people of color, whose experiences have been dismissed or overlooked.
