Finding the ME in Team: Supporting Adolescent Athletes with Eating Disorders

This presentation will discuss some strategies and practical applications for working with adolescent athletes with eating disorders. It’ll cover how to navigate training, competition, meal plans, family support, and their social life while they work towards recovery. These topics will be discussed from both the clinician and client perspective through examples and case studies.

Learning Objectives:

Following this presentation, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify the unique needs of adolescent athletes with an eating disorder.
  2. Illustrate how physical activity can play a role in eating disorder treatment.
  3. Explore sources of support for adolescent athletes with an eating disorder.
  4. Develop an individualized approach to treating adolescent athletes with eating disorders.

Dawn Lundin, MS, RD Bio:

Dawn is a registered dietitian and owner of Restore Ease Dietetics, a virtual nutrition private practice that focuses on mental health + sports nutrition. She has a knack for working with student-athletes and has an individualized approach to supporting her clients. She works with high school and collegiate teams in her local community. She is the team dietitian for the Marquette County Interscholastic Cycling team and the West End Ski and Trail Devo team. When she’s not working with athletes, you can find her on the trails either mountain biking or running. She’s always carrying extra snacks and dreaming of her next self-supported endurance event. She, her husband, and their 3 boys love to travel but are equally obsessed with their hometown in the beautiful Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
