SUMMARY:Weight Inclusive Diabetes and Eating Disorders April Consult Group
DESCRIPTION:Join your colleagues for a monthly group consultation focused specifically on supporting your clients & patients with diabetes and eating disorders/disordered eating\, facilitated by Erin Phillips\, MPH\, RD\, CDCES\, eating disorder dietitian and diabetes specialist. \nIn this laid-back group format\, we’ll discuss specific questions and topics brought by you specific to diabetes and disordered eating. People with diabetes are up to three times as likely to develop an eating disorder than those without diabetes\, but many clinicians feel that the recommendations for each of these diagnoses contradict each other\, leaving you and your clients & patients feeling stuck. This group is intended to provide guidance to this nuance. \nTo get you started\, here are some examples of what you might bring to the group: \n\nMedications\, side effects\, and how to discuss them with your client/patient\nWhere to start when your ED client/patient is diagnosed with diabetes\nWhat to know about insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitors\nCase consultation on co-occurring diabetes and eating disorder\n\nRegistration is required\, and we’ll limit the number of members to 8 in order to keep it participatory. The group will take place monthly and will require registration each month. After registering\, you’ll receive information about where to send questions\, topics\, or your case study. \nRegistration opens here two weeks prior to the event\, on April 10th\, at 11 AM PST / 2 PM EST. \n\n\n\n\n\nErin Phillips Bio:\nErin (she/her) is a Registered Dietitian (RD) whose work is grounded in Health at Every Size and fat-positive nutrition. She has an advanced certification as a diabetes specialist (CDCES) and has spent most of her career working with people living with all types of diabetes. \nShe has a private practice that focuses primarily on the intersection of diabetes and eating disorders. She works with people living with diabetes through individual counseling as well as providing consultation to clinicians looking to be more grounded and confident in supporting their clients and patients with co-occurring diagnoses of diabetes and eating disorders. \nWhile she loves geeking out over diabetes technology and blood sugar trends\, Erin also uses therapeutic techniques to guide her clients toward self-compassion and embodiment and finds both of these equally helpful in making peace with food and diabetes. \nErin has been a dietitian since 2008 and received advanced training in eating disorders\, HAES\, and Intuitive Eating. She has an undergraduate degree in food and nutrition science from Seattle Pacific University and a graduate degree in public health nutrition from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. \nOutside of the office\, she loves rock climbing in the pacific northwest\, breakfast\, and showing you pictures of her cat (as often as you’ll let her!).

SUMMARY:Nutrition Counseling Course Group Supervision with Annyck Besso
DESCRIPTION:This monthly study group is open to those registered for our Empower Your Practice: Advanced Nutrition Counseling For Dietitians Through a Relational Lens Course. Join us for support and to learn more about working with and counseling individual clients. Remember to register in advance! \nRegister here!  \nAnnyck Besso\, DtP\, RD\, MSc (She/Elle) Bio: \n\n\n\nAnnyck Besso is a registered dietitian who has been working with individuals with eating disorders and disordered eating for the last decade. Annyck is also the founder of Sööma\, a multidisciplinary private practice in Montreal Canada and the United States.  Annyck is originally from Montreal\, Canada\, where she worked at the Douglas Mental Health University Institute on the pediatric eating disorder inpatient unit after finishing her masters. She then had the opportunity to work in private practice in Washington\, DC for three years. Annyck founded Sööma in 2020\, with a vision to provide inclusive\, collaborative and client-centered care to individuals of all ages. Annyck manages a team of registered dietitians and psychologists who specialize in treating athletes\, adolescents\, and adults who experience disordered eating\, under-fueling\, and eating disorders.  Annyck has always valued and believed that understanding an individual’s experience with food and their body\, being curious about their story\, and understanding the emotional and psychological barriers to change were the keys to long-standing recovery\, whatever that looks like for each individual. Throughout her career\, Annyck has received specialty training in evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)\, Family Based Treatment (FBT)\, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)\, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)\, which are used heavily throughout her nutrition interventions. Annyck’s clientele consists mainly of severe and enduring anorexia cases\, adolescents and their families receiving Family Based Treatment\, and athletes wanting to perform in their sports but being limited due to disordered eating behaviors. Annyck strongly believes in a harm reduction approach\, where a client is free to choose whether recovery feels possible or accessible. By offering a trauma-informed space\, Annyck sees each individual as having the capacity to choose what is best and most accessible to them at any time in their treatment.  Wanting to contribute to training and education on the role of the dietitian in the treatment of eating disorders\, Annyck has invested time in sharing her knowledge and experience with students and other professionals. She feels passionate about accompanying dietitians in using various therapeutic approaches in their nutrition counseling to provide care that is centered around the client’s experience. Annyck became a McGill Affiliate Member in 2020 and feels honored to be able to change the way eating disorder care is taught at McGill University through her guest lecturing. Annyck has also had the opportunity to offer various presentations through EDRD Pro to assist dietitians in feeling confident about delving deeper into their nutrition work with clients. Beyond teaching and training\, Annyck offers supervision to dietitians throughout Canada and the United States where she provides an opportunity for dietitians to reflect on their experience with various cases\, barriers that may show up preventing them from being curious\, and personal and professional development to dietitians at any point in their career.  Beyond any specific nutrition intervention\, Annyck strongly believes in providing client-centered care\, seeing past an individual’s diagnosis\, and understanding how their eating disorder once protected them and how it currently serves them. In her work\, she creatively adapts to circumstances and the client’s experiences to offer a nutrition approach that is individualized\, trauma-informed\, and evidence-based.

SUMMARY:Understanding the Intersection Between ADHD and Eating Disorders
DESCRIPTION:This webinar dives into the overlap between ADHD and eating disorders: two conditions that show up together a lot in practice\, but are often missed or misunderstood. People with ADHD experience differences in motivation\, impulse control\, and executive functioning that can make eating regularly and nourishing themselves consistently really hard. \nIn this webinar\, we’ll explore how dietitians can support clients with ADHD through practical\, compassionate\, and realistic approaches: ones that work with the ADHD brain instead of against it. Through case examples\, relatable client scenarios\, and tangible tools\, participants will leave with ideas on how they can better support this population in their work. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLearning Objectives:\nFollowing this presentation\, participants will: \n\nUnderstand how ADHD affects focus\, motivation\, reward\, and decision-making around food.\nRecognize how symptoms like inattention\, impulsivity\, and emotional dysregulation can show up in eating patterns (like skipping meals\, binge eating\, or chaotic eating).\nIdentify the biggest barriers clients with ADHD face around structure\, consistency\, and nutrition follow-through.\nApply ADHD-informed strategies that make meal planning and nourishment feel doable\, not shame-based.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLevel B: Skills and Application\n\n\nAt this level\, learners move beyond theory to actively apply knowledge in practical settings. Emphasis is on developing proficiency\, problem-solving\, and hands-on skills that can be implemented in real-world scenarios. Ideal for practitioners looking to strengthen their capabilities.\n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\nVanessa Anoia\, DtP\, RDN Bio:\n\nVanessa Anoia is a Registered Dietitian working in Canada and the United States\, specializing in the treatment of eating disorders\, disordered eating\, and sports nutrition for people of all ages. She uses a harm-reduction\, trauma-informed\, and client-centered approach to guide her clients throughout recovery. \nShaped from her own journey and professional knowledge\, Vanessa also brings a unique perspective to clients struggling with ADHD and eating disorders. She understands firsthand the complexities of managing impulsive eating behaviors\, struggling with the feeling of control\, and the challenges of daily functioning with ADHD\, and how this impacts eating patterns.

SUMMARY:Weight Inclusive Diabetes and Eating Disorders June Consult Group
\nRegistration opens here two weeks prior to the event.

SUMMARY:Translating Motivational Interviewing Theory into Practice for Treating Orthorexia
DESCRIPTION:The conversations that occur between healthcare providers and their clients are powerful ones\, capable of either supporting or inhibiting the innate change process that exists within all of us. When working with individuals experiencing orthorexia\, these conversations can become especially complex as “healthy eating” beliefs and rigid food rules are often deeply tied to identity\, safety\, and self-worth. The most helpful thing about you\, as a clinician\, is not the advice you give or the solutions you offer\, but the space you hold for clients to explore ambivalence\, flexibility\, and the possibility of something different for themselves. \nIn this webinar\, Dana Sturtevant will explore how MI techniques can be applied when counseling someone with orthorexia\, with a focus on reducing defensiveness\, navigating rigid health identities without reinforcing disordered beliefs\, and gently guiding clients toward greater flexibility around food and eating.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLearning Objectives:\nFollowing this presentation\, participants will be able to: \n\nRecognize MI-consistent strategies for clients who strongly identify with “clean eating” or “healthy eating purity.”\nApply spirit (PACE) and skills (OARS) of MI to reduce defensiveness and increase discrepancy awareness.\nNavigate “health identity” without reinforcing disordered beliefs.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLevel B: Skills and Application\nAt this level\, learners move beyond theory to actively apply knowledge in practical settings. Emphasis is on developing proficiency\, problem-solving\, and hands-on skills that can be implemented in real-world scenarios. Ideal for practitioners looking to strengthen their capabilities.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\nDana Sturtevant\, MS\, RD\, LD (she/her) Bio:\n\nDana Sturtevant\, M.S.\, R.D. (she/her) is the co-founder of the Center for Body Trust\, co-author of the book Reclaiming Body Trust\, and co-host of The Body Trust Podcast. As a registered dietitian\, she helps people divest from diet culture\, explore what it means to be embodied\, and move toward more compassionate forms of radical care. Her work as a speaker\, educator\, and trainer focuses on humanizing health care\, advancing health equity\, and advocating for food and body sovereignty. For the past 22 years\, Dana has trained thousands of health care providers in Motivational Interviewing. As a sought-after speaker and writer\, Dana is a champion for weight-inclusive models of care and offers supervision\, training\, and consultation for helping professionals and health care organizations.

SUMMARY:Access Over Adherence: Neurodivergent Barriers to Eating in Eating Disorder Care
DESCRIPTION:Many eating disorder nutrition interventions were built for neurotypical nervous systems\, so when neurodivergent clients struggle to implement them\, it’s often mislabeled as “noncompliance” or “lack of motivation” rather than a mismatch between the plan and the person’s access needs. \nIn this interactive\, case-based webinar\, we’ll translate sensory experience\, interoception differences\, executive functioning\, and medical complexity into practical\, day-to-day strategies that make eating more doable—without turning treatment into a compliance contest. \nYou’ll leave with an Access Map\, capacity-based planning tools\, and clinician scripts you can use within your respective clinical practice.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLearning Objectives:\nFollowing this presentation\, participants will: \n\nDifferentiate common neurodivergent barriers to eating—sensory processing\, interoception differences\, executive functioning\, movement/motor planning differences\, trauma/mental health factors\, and medical complexity—using targeted assessment questions to identify the primary “bottleneck” to nourishment.\nApply an accessibility-focused framework to adapt core ED nutrition interventions (regular eating\, variety\, flexibility\, meal planning) into individualized supports that increase follow-through without reinforcing shame\, rigidity\, or compliance-based treatment dynamics.\nDesign capacity-based nutrition plans (e.g.\, Level 1–5 meal supports\, high- vs low-bandwidth meal options\, emergency food systems\, low-demand structures) that maintain nourishment during burnout\, symptom flares\, and fluctuating capacity.\nImplement neurodivergent-affirming language and documentation strategies that validate disability-related barriers while maintaining ED treatment focus and defining measurable progress markers beyond “eating normally” (e.g.\, consistency\, reduced friction\, reduced distress\, increased access).\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLevel B: Skills and Application\n\n\nAt this level\, learners move beyond theory to actively apply knowledge in practical settings. Emphasis is on developing proficiency\, problem-solving\, and hands-on skills that can be implemented in real-world scenarios. Ideal for practitioners looking to strengthen their capabilities.\n  \n\n\nJacs Scheinman RDN\, LDN (he/him) Bio:\nJacs Scheinman (he/him) is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) with 5+ years of experience providing values-driven nutrition counseling for neurodivergent clients and affirming care for LGBTQIA+ communities. His clinical work centers sensory- and executive function-friendly eating\, feeding differences (including ARFID)\, body image and dysphoria support\, and care for clients with complex health needs such as GI conditions\, chronic pain\, and hypermobility-related conditions.\nAs a queer\, AuDHD\, epileptic clinician\, Jacs practices from a trauma-informed\, neurodiversity-affirming lens and integrates non-diet/HAES-informed principles with approaches drawn from Responsive Feeding Therapy and third-wave modalities (ACT/DBT/IFS) to support clients in real-world contexts. He has presented for professional audiences\, including CPSDA and has published peer-reviewed research related to transgender and gender-diverse nutrition care.

SUMMARY:Food Mad: The Nutritional Neuroscience of the Starved Brain
DESCRIPTION:Why does food have to come first in eating disorder recovery? This webinar unpacks the diet-disease relationship between malnutrition and the brain\, from grey matter loss to disrupted mood and motivation\, and makes the case that adequate nutrition is the biological precondition for recovery\, not a treatment goal. You will learn why a nutritionally compromised brain cannot drive its own recovery\, why external support is neurologically necessary\, and how to build aligned treatment teams whose shared understanding makes that support consistent and effective.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLearning Objectives:\nFollowing this presentation\, participants will be able to: \n\nExplain the neurobiological mechanisms by which malnutrition impairs cognitive flexibility\, emotional regulation\, and behavioural change capacity in eating disorder presentations.\nDescribe the energy requirements and timeline for brain recovery during nutritional rehabilitation\, and apply this to inform clinical meal plan targets and treatment expectations.\nArticulate why a nutritionally compromised brain cannot drive its own recovery\, and use this framework to justify external mealtime support as a neurologically necessary\, not optional\, clinical intervention.\nUse neuroscience-informed language to communicate the brain-nutrition relationship clearly to clients\, families\, and multidisciplinary treatment teams\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLevel B: Skills and Application\n\n\nAt this level\, learners move beyond theory to actively apply knowledge in practical settings. Emphasis is on developing proficiency\, problem-solving\, and hands-on skills that can be implemented in real-world scenarios. Ideal for practitioners looking to strengthen their capabilities.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\nVictoria Schonwald NZRD Bio:\n\nVictoria Schonwald is a New Zealand-registered dietitian specialising in nutritional neuroscience and the nutritional rehabilitation of the compromised brain. Based in Christchurch and working through The Eat Clinic\, Victoria has spent seven years in a specialist eating disorder private practice\, working with individuals\, families\, and caregivers across the full spectrum of eating disorder presentations. \nVictoria’s clinical framework is built on a central argument: that adequate nutrition is the biological precondition for psychological recovery\, not an adjunct to it. Her work translates emerging neuroscience\, including brain volume changes\, neurotransmitter disruption\, hormonal consequences\, and cognitive impairment under malnutrition\, into accessible\, non-pathologising language for clinicians\, carers\, and people in recovery. She is the author of Food Mad: The Nutritional Neuroscience of the Starved Brain\, a resource that has been well received by clinicians and families internationally. Victoria is currently developing a practical companion to Food Mad\, focused on what recovery eating looks like in practice\, alongside clinical tools for assessing neurological readiness for recovery progression. \nVictoria is a supporter and voluntary speaker for the NZ Eating Disorders Charitable Society (NZEDCS)\, the primary eating disorder parent support organisation in New Zealand\, where she provides education and support to families navigating eating disorder recovery.

SUMMARY:Beyond Assumptions: Complexities at the Intersection of Diabetes and Eating Disorders in Latine Communities
DESCRIPTION:Eating disorders are often overlooked in Latine individuals living with diabetes\, where cultural context and routine medical practices can blur the line between necessary self-management and emerging harm. This session explores how family dynamics\, food traditions\, body ideals\, and structural stressors shape the way disordered eating presents — and how it is understood in care settings. Through case-based discussion\, participants will gain culturally responsive\, weight-inclusive considerations to approach this intersection with greater nuance\, curiosity\, and compassion.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLearning Objectives:\nFollowing this presentation\, participants will: \n\nAnalyze how cultural context and diabetes self-management practices can complicate recognition of disordered eating in Latine individuals. \nDifferentiate between medically indicated diabetes care behaviors and patterns that may signal emerging eating disorder behaviors. \nApply culturally responsive\, weight-inclusive considerations to clinical conversations and interdisciplinary collaboration when working with Latine patients navigating diabetes and disordered eating concerns.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLevel B: Skills and Application\n\n\n\nAt this level\, learners move beyond theory to actively apply knowledge in practical settings. Emphasis is on developing proficiency\, problem-solving\, and hands-on skills that can be implemented in real-world scenarios. Ideal for practitioners looking to strengthen their capabilities.\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\nDiana Mesa\, RDN\, LDN\, CDCES Bio:\n\nDiana Mesa\, RDN\, LDN\, CDCES\, is a bilingual Registered Dietitian and Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist based in Miami\, Florida. She is the founder of En La Mesa Nutrition\, where she provides culturally responsive\, weight-inclusive care for individuals navigating diabetes\, eating disorders\, and PMOS. SUMMARY:Weight Inclusive Diabetes and Eating Disorders August Consult Group
\nRegistration opens here two weeks prior to the event.

Her involvement in multidisciplinary eating disorder treatment started at the UCLA Arthur Ashe Student Health & Wellness Center. In addition\, Katie was the eating disorder dietitian at Optimum Performance Institute in Woodland Hills\, California which specializes in DBT-focused mental health residential treatment for young adults. Katie is now the Clinical FBT Supervisor for Side By Side Nutrition and is also a contributing clinician in the development\, testing\, and training of the new Recovery Record Family App which will connect families and clinicians through technology to provide recovery support between sessions.
