Just for fun, tell us something most people don’t know about you!
I have competed in amateur Muay Thai. This sounds way more bad-ass than it actually was, considering that my record was 0-2.
Where do you work? I work part-time at a GI and hepatology clinic, and part-time in private practice, specializing in helping people struggling with disordered eating or chronic dieting using intuitive eating and mindful eating approaches. I’m also currently developing an education community for fellow Canadian weight-inclusive dietitians that I’m hoping to launch in the fall.
What do you enjoy most about what you do? When people have “aha” moments when it comes to their relationship with food or their bodies.
Why eating disorders treatment? What drives you? Helping people to see there is so much more to life than trying to change their weight, or even focusing on their “health.” Helping people step away confidently from diet culture.
Who are your favorite social media influencers in the non-diet, recovery, body liberation space?
Too many to name! Your Fat Friend, Christy Harrison, Evelyn Tribole, Krista Murias, and Jess Campbell (@haes_studentdoctor) are a few that come to mind.
What is/are your favorite book/s or resource that have made a difference in the way you work?
Food Psych® was one of the biggest sparks that led me to this work and I feel very honoured to be on the team as community and content associate. More recently I really enjoyed reading The Body is not an Apology by Sonya Renee Taylor.
What is one non-diet, Intuitive Eating, or Health at Every Size® pearl of wisdom you’d like to share?
There’s no such thing as “right” or “wrong”, let alone “perfect”, whether you are trying to integrate these modalities into your own life, or helping others do the same. We are all on our own path and it’s really about constantly unlearning and learning, and keeping an open heart and mind.
