If you didn’t do what you do professionally, what other job or field would you have pursued, and why?

I really wanted to be a French Professor when I was in High School. I still love French (I minored in French in college!) but I’m not sure I could’ve handled the academic life! I’ve only had the most amazing French teachers and professors.

Just for fun, tell us something most people don’t know about you!

In high school, I did background vocals on an obscure self-produced album. So obscure I couldn’t actually tell you anything else about it!

Where do you work?

I have a private practice in Bellingham, Washington – Prosper Nutrition and Wellness. I work with disordered eating and folks seeking to drop diet culture. I work with all ages and have a special interest in LGBTQ+ populations.

I’ve got a few projects in the works and if you want to learn more when it’s time to share, come find me on social media! I’m really excited to share some of these projects!

What do you enjoy most about what you do?

I love seeing people (my clients and people on social media) start to learn themselves. I’ve seen as folks become more embodied and trust their bodies, they start to really come into the person they truly are. It’s amazing to see and experience. I also have really found that my soul is fed with social justice work and by being an activist. It feels like a natural progression of my work and of my recovery.

Why eating disorders treatment? What drives you?

I had an eating disorder for years and years. And no one noticed because I didn’t look it. My restriction was a good thing because I was “trying to diet”. I wish I had met someone sooner who called that out. Someone who I could feel connection too and could see myself reflected in. So, I decided to be who I needed – and I hope that I can be that person for someone else as well.

Who are your favorite social media influencers in the non-diet, recovery, body liberation space?

I love Jes Baker, Ashley Seruya (@cozibae), SJ Thompson (@resilientfatgoddex), Meredith Noble (@madeonagenerousplan), Kimmie Singh (@tastingabundance), Nic McDermind (@theembodiedfatactivist), Vaughn Darst (@allgendernutrition), Your Fat Friend and sooooo many more. It’s hard to choose just a few.

What are your favorite books and resources that have made a difference in the way you work?

I love to recommend Things No One will Tell Fat Girls by Jes Baker and Big Girl by Kelsey Miller. They are both just real conversations about what it’s like to be fat and what it’s like to try Intuitive Eating. I also love Body Respect by Linda Bacon and Lucy Aphramor. Sonya Renee Taylor’s The Body is Not An Apology was also amazing. Again, so many to choose from! I read a lot and have about 30 books constantly on my “to read” list!

I also think that Food Psych made a huge impact on me, personally and professionally.

What is one non-diet, Intuitive Eating, or Health at Every Size® pearl of wisdom you’d like to share?

This work is hard to do in a world that is always telling us we are doing it wrong or worse, that we are causing harm. But this is healing. This is compassionate. And this is appropriate for everyone. I have never met a single person since doing this work that I decided Health at Every Size wasn’t for. There isn’t an upper limit. To professionals, to clients, to anyone. Anyone, in any body, can do this work.
