New Leaf Nutrition and Yoga
Registered Dietitian specializing in nutrition for behavioral and neurological health, including but not limited to disordered eating and eating disorders.
Hi! I'm Allison. I was born on Broadway in New York City because my parents were soap opera stars. That's another story. I made my television debut in an Avis commercial when I was 9 months old. My job was to cry. I was a natural.
After moving across the US, I finally settled in North Carolina. I started a private nutrition and yoga practice in the serene mountains of Asheville, where I picked up a mushroom hunting hobby. Then I relocated to Wilmington, the charming port city where I grew up. Now I have client communities in both cities.
Growing up, I always thought I'd end up working in the film industry. Both my parents were actors, and I'd been involved in theater and film my whole life. It wasn't until college that I learned I had an aptitude for science. I'd always been encouraged in the arts. Working in healthcare had never occurred to me. As part of my early life existential crisis, I took some time off from school to think about what I wanted to do.
As a teenager I was an underweight and anemic "junk food vegan". After passing out a couple times, I was referred to a dietitian. Shortly after taking her advice seriously, I started eating better and my health improved. Go figure! My journey to health was more of a marathon than a sprint, but the seeds had been planted.
A couple years later, I devoted myself to the teachings of a yoga therapist. Through yoga I learned invaluable skills for coping with depression, anxiety, and pain. I've had several guides on the path of yoga, each one planting new seeds of awareness.
These experiences improved my life so dramatically I want to help others in the same way. While conventional medicine can save lives, it has its limitations. My mission is to promote well-being, to teach people how to be truly healthy, not just to manage the symptoms of disease.
