Beyond Meal Plans: Expanding the Role of the Nutrition Counselor in ED Treatment

Speaker: Marci Evans, MS, CEDRD-C, LND

Video Description:
Integrating counseling skills is essential to providing effective nutrition care in ED treatment. Yet, insufficient training and structural barriers often prevent dietitians from stepping into a more robust role on the ED treatment team. In this clip, Marci will describe the role of an ED nutrition counselor as embodying skills and qualities of both traditional dietetics and psychotherapy, describe the risks and limitations of a nutrition approach focused solely on meal plans and weight goals, and provide concrete examples of what a more advanced counseling process looks like. She will then demonstrate this through a brief client vignette.
