Alexandria Butterfield Therapy
Description
While recovery is challenging, one of my greatest passions as a counsellor is helping clients develop tools and coping skills so they no longer lean on disordered eating behaviours. Wherever you are in recovery, my approach is compassionate and client centered. In our first few sessions, I will help you identify your values and strengths to create indivdualized goals both inside and outside of the therapy room. Some potential goals for therapy include processing emotions around food and exercise, reducing disordered eating behaviours, tackling negative self talk and creating structure in your life. Having worked as a therapist at multiple eating disorder treatment programs, I apply this education and advocacy into my private practice. I am a HAES (Health At Every Size) aligned and LGTBQ+ affirming clinician, incorporating a social justice lens into my work.
My approach as a counsellor is collaborative, practical and value-oriented. I use ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), strength based interventions and mindfulness practices. Through my work as a counsellor, I have also found creative art therapies extremely helpful in providing emotional insight and expression. The feedback I have receive from clients is that they like working with me because of my genuine and empathetic nature. I come to sessions prepared with possible strategies and recommendations, but you choose what we discuss and the areas of of your life you want to work on. Above all else, I want you to feel respected and validated.
I work with individuals in person and virtually who hold residence in BC. I hold registration with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors and hold a Master of Arts in Clinical Counselling from the California Institute of Integral Studies.
