Eating Disorders in Rural Populations: An Understudied and Underserved Population

This presentation will cover what is and is not known about eating disorders and disordered eating in rural populations. In particular, the presentation will cover the unique risk factors, protective factors, and treatment barriers in rural populations.

  2. Understand the unique influences of eating disorders in rural populations.
  3. Articulate the barriers and solutions to eating disorder treatment in rural populations.

Samantha L. Hahn, PhD, MPH, RD (she/her) Bio:

Dr. Samantha L. Hahn, PhD, MPH, RD (she/hers) is an Assistant Professor and Population Health Researcher at Central Michigan University College of Medicine and a registered dietitian. She has been trained at the intersection of nutrition and dietetics, public health, epidemiology, and eating disorders. She uses her training to conduct research using a health equity framework to identify and address contributors to disparities in disordered eating among young people to more effectively prevent eating disorders in at-risk populations. Dr. Hahn’s work in eating disorder prevention has received national and international recognition including the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics and Academy for Eating Disorders.
