Speaker: Alex Raymond, RD, LD, CEDS-C

Description: This presentation will explore topics for new dietitians that are often not taught in school but are critical to future success. The topics discussed include: what supervision is and how to get the most out of it, why client rapport can be just as important as clinical knowledge, and what it means to be truly weight inclusive.

Supervision:

  • One on one or group supervision
  • Benefits – get general questions answered about what to do, reflect on own skills
  • For all skill levels

Building rapport

  • What this means (more than just talking about random things and hobbies)
  • Why it’s important
  • Some helpful tips to develop rapport

Weight inclusive

  • Challenging your own anti-fat bias
  • Thinking of how this might show up in session
  • Examples: telling clients their weight will “settle,” assuring them they won’t get fat, assuming fat clients aren’t restricting/taking restricting less seriously, telling clients to eat in moderation, recommending less food to someone in a larger body (it’s ok if you skipped a snack),
