Intuitive Eating in Modern Diabetes Care: Evidence-Based Alternatives to Restriction

February 5, 2026 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am PST

Traditional diabetes care has often relied on restrictive, weight-centric strategies that carry long-term risks, including increased distress, disordered eating, weight cycling, reduced patient engagement, and health care avoidance. This 60-minute webinar invites healthcare professionals to critically examine these models and explore evidence-based, weight-inclusive alternatives that support both metabolic health and overall well-being by incorporating an intuitive eating framework.

Through a blend of research review, detailed case discussions, and practical applications, participants will learn to navigate complex clinical situations with both compassion and science.

The session will also highlight the role of dietary supplements, sleep, stress, and physical activity in blood glucose regulation, equipping providers with a holistic framework for patient-centered care.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Critically evaluate the evidence behind restrictive and weight-centric models of diabetes care, including impacts on long-term glycemic outcomes and patient well-being.
  2. Analyze emerging research on the interplay between dietary supplements, sleep, stress, and physical activity in glycemic management, and incorporate these into holistic care recommendations.
  3. Name at least 3 ways clinicians can use advanced diabetes technology (such as continuous glucose monitors) to aid in glycemic control for those with diabetes or prediabetes.
  4. Design case-specific interventions for complex presentations (e.g., co-occurring disordered eating, medication challenges, cultural dietary practices) without resorting to prescriptive or restrictive diets.

Level B: Skills and Application

At this level, learners move beyond theory to actively apply knowledge in practical settings. Emphasis is on developing proficiency, problem-solving, and hands-on skills that can be implemented in real-world scenarios. Ideal for practitioners looking to strengthen their capabilities.
