Jenna Smith, RD, CEDS Bio:
Jenna Smith is a Registered Dietitian and Certified Eating Disorder Specialist who has worked in the eating disorder field since 2013. She has experience across the full continuum of eating disorder care, including inpatient hospitalization, residential treatment, partial hospitalization (PHP), intensive outpatient (IOP), and private practice.
She currently works with adolescents and their families in Kaiser Permanente’s North Valley Adolescent Eating Disorder Intensive Outpatient Program (EDIOP). Her approach is grounded in Family-Based Treatment (FBT), and she utilizes the Plate-by-Plate Approach to help families provide practical, supportive nutrition during eating disorder recovery.
While working with eating disorders can be challenging, she strongly believes in the possibility of full recovery and strives to hold hope for patients and families during the times when they may have difficulty holding that hope for themselves. One of the most meaningful parts of her work is partnering with parents throughout the recovery process and watching their child gradually come back to life – their personality, energy, interests, relationships, and sense of self returning as they heal.
Her passion for this field is also deeply personal. Having experienced an eating disorder herself and gone on to achieve full recovery, she understands firsthand that life beyond an eating disorder is possible. Her own recovery ultimately inspired her to become an eating disorder dietitian and continues to shape the hope, compassion, and confidence she brings to her work with patients and families.
Types of clients she works best with:
Jenna’s primary area of specialization and passion is working with adolescents with eating disorders and their parents using an FBT-informed approach. For the past 6.5 years, she has worked in Kaiser Permanente’s Adolescent EDIOP with youth ages 9-18. She utilizes the Plate-by-Plate Approach and have extensive experience with nutritional rehabilitation, weight restoration, and meal support.
Jenna especially enjoys working alongside parents and helping them build confidence in supporting their child’s recovery, including coaching them through challenging meals. She is comfortable navigating difficult conversations around meal plans, weight restoration, treatment goal weights, and growth charts while helping families understand the rationale behind treatment recommendations.
