Learning Objectives:

Following this presentation, participants will be able to:

  1. Streamline your onboarding and paperwork to support accurate documentation for reimbursement.
  2. Understand the basics of dietitian insurance billing, including credentialing, CPT codes, and diagnosis codes.
  3. Explore common claim denial issues and different avenues for resolution.
  4. Identify possible unlawful claim denials and where to report these issues.

Elizabeth Brown MS, RD, LD (she/her) Bio:

Liz Brown MS, RD, LD is a registered and licensed dietitian residing in Austin, TX. She started her career as a contract dietitian in behavioral health hospitals, before switching to full time eating disorder work at a treatment center. In 2020, Liz began working full time in her private practice specializing in eating disorders. Over the years, Liz has brought on additional dietitians as her practice grew, which led to a considerable amount of learning in order to bill insurance companies appropriately. Liz is passionate about access to care for people seeking treatment for eating disorders, and is currently the IFEDD Insurance Team Lead, helping IFEDD members and their clients navigate the nuances of insurance coverage for eating disorders.

Ali Barrett CPB (she/her)Bio:

Ali Barrett helps dietitians simplify insurance billing, reduce stress, and get paid with confidence. With more than 9 years of focused experience in dietitian billing and over 25 years in insurance billing, Ali brings deep industry knowledge and practical expertise to every client relationship. She understands the details that matter—from documentation requirements and modifiers to payer rules and reimbursement strategy—and helps dietitians navigate the billing process with clarity and confidence.

As a Certified Professional Biller through the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC), Ali is committed to accuracy, compliance, and staying current in the ever-changing world of medical billing and coding. Her goal is simple: take the billing burden off dietitians so they can spend more time supporting their patients and growing their practices.

Outside of work, Ali enjoys adventure, softball, travel, and discovering great food with her husband and friends. A self-proclaimed foodie, she loves cooking at home just as much as exploring new restaurants.
