Weight Inclusive Diabetes and Eating Disorders March Consult Group

March 8 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

Join your colleagues for a monthly group consultation focused specifically on supporting your clients & patients with diabetes and eating disorders/disordered eating, facilitated by Erin Phillips, MPH, RD, CDCES, eating disorder dietitian and diabetes specialist.

In this laid-back group format, we’ll discuss specific questions and topics brought by you specific to diabetes and disordered eating. People with diabetes are up to three times as likely to develop an eating disorder than those without diabetes, but many clinicians feel that the recommendations for each of these diagnoses contradict each other, leaving you and your clients & patients feeling stuck. This group is intended to provide guidance to this nuance.

To get you started, here are some examples of what you might bring to the group:

  • Medications, side effects, and how to discuss them with your client/patient
  • Where to start when your ED client/patient is diagnosed with diabetes
  • What to know about insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitors
  • Case consultation on co-occurring diabetes and eating disorder

Registration is required, and we’ll limit the number of members to 8 in order to keep it participatory. The group will take place monthly and will require registration each month. After registering, you’ll receive information about where to send questions, topics, or your case study.

Registration opens here two weeks prior to the event, on February 23rd at 10 AM PST / 1 PM EST.

Erin Phillips Bio:

Erin (she/her) is a Registered Dietitian (RD) whose work is grounded in Health at Every Size and fat-positive nutrition. She has an advanced certification as a diabetes specialist (CDCES) and has spent most of her career working with people living with all types of diabetes.

She has a private practice that focuses primarily on the intersection of diabetes and eating disorders. She works with people living with diabetes through individual counseling as well as providing consultation to clinicians looking to be more grounded and confident in supporting their clients and patients with co-occurring diagnoses of diabetes and eating disorders.

While she loves geeking out over diabetes technology and blood sugar trends, Erin also uses therapeutic techniques to guide her clients toward self-compassion and embodiment and finds both of these equally helpful in making peace with food and diabetes.

Erin has been a dietitian since 2008 and received advanced training in eating disorders, HAES, and Intuitive Eating. She has an undergraduate degree in food and nutrition science from Seattle Pacific University and a graduate degree in public health nutrition from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

Outside of the office, she loves rock climbing in the pacific northwest, breakfast, and showing you pictures of her cat (as often as you’ll let her!).
